2 in critical condition, several injured after bee attack on funeral mourners at Agona Otwii-Krom

Two people are in critical condition and several others have sustained injuries after a swarm of bees launched a sudden attack on funeral mourners at Agona Otwii-Krom in the Agona East District of the Central Region.

Residents and visitors had gathered at the community durbar grounds near Agona Kwanyarko to mourn two deceased persons when the bees, reportedly emerging from an unknown source, descended on the crowd.

Speaking to Adom News, the former Assembly Member for the Agona Fawumanya Electoral Area, Albert Quainoo, confirmed that the incident occurred shortly after the burial.

He said the swarm spread through the entire community, stinging not only people but also animals, including sheep, goats and cattle passing along the principal street.

Mr Quainoo described the incident as unprecedented in the community’s history, noting that the entire town has been left in shock.

He further revealed that two mourners travelling from Akyem Apradi to attend the funeral had died in a road accident the previous Friday, compounding the community’s grief.

According to him, residents are now afraid to return to the community centre to continue the funeral rites scheduled for Sunday, fearing another possible bee attack.

He added that family heads and opinion leaders were forced to abandon the event and flee for their lives during the incident.
