Support your disable relatives to register and receive financial assistance – DCE urges relatives of PWDs

Mr Mba Zechariah Alenbilla, the District Chief Executive for Atwima Nwabiagya North, has urged relatives of People with Disabilities (PWDs), to encourage and support them to register with the district assembly to enable them to receive financial and material support. 

He said, the Assembly remained committed to the welfare and economic empowerment of PWDs and would continue to provide them with the necessary financial and material support that could help improve their livelihoods and social conditions. 

Speaking to the people of Akropong in the district during the distribution of Startup funds and items to 75 PWDs, he urged relatives of the PWDs to lead them to the District Social Welfare and Community Development Department for their registration, identification, selection and support. 

He said the assembly had already supported over 80 PWDs this year in addition to about 85 who received support last year, adding that, 80 additional PWDs had been targeted to receive support by the end of the year, 2026. 

Mr Alenbilla explained that the timely release of the (DACF) paved way for distribution of the support, which equally enhanced the chances of new applicants and strengthened the Assembly to capture more beneficiaries. 

He urged the beneficiaries to use the items and funds for their intended purposes instead of diverting them to different activities particularly, by selling them for short-term benefits. 

The assembly spent GHS 270,000.00 from the disability fund to procure the items for the beneficiaries, who were registered from the various communities in the district. 

Forty-seven (47) of them received education, healthcare and trading capital support, whilst 11 were given chest freezers, 10 received wheelchairs, four got industrial sewing machines, 45 received sacks of charcoal, while the rest received a fufu pounding machine, hair dryer, and a bale of clothes. 

Mr Andy Osei Kontor, the District Social Welfare and Community Development Director assured the people of the readiness of the office to offer the needed assistance to PWDs and single mothers in the area. 

Nana Karikari Akyeampong, the Akropong Akyeamehene who chaired the function, commended the government for supporting a good number of PWDs in the area.
