Ama K. Abebrese criticises government appointments of men accused of sexual misconduct

Ghanaian actress Ama K. Abebrese has condemned the appointment of men who sexually assault women to key leadership positions in the country.

In a post shared on social media, she explained that no serious country will honour such individuals with governmental appointments.

She added that placing such men in positions of influence sends a bad signal that misconduct against women carries no consequences and may even be rewarded.

“There is no serious country that will appoint men who have a documented history and allegations of sexual assault/sexual harassment against females to high governmental positions. It sends the message that men can abuse females and be rewarded. Do Better Ghana,” she wrote.

Prior to her comment, others had raised issues about ethical leadership and the need for stronger vetting processes for public office holders, particularly in matters involving gender-based misconduct.

This comes after the recent appointment of Kwasi Kyei Darkwah as Ghana’s Special Envoy to the Caribbean Region and an earlier appointment of Professor Ransford Gyampo as Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Shippers Authority.

The two, in the past, were involved in cases of sexual indiscipline.
