Atiwa East DCE denies jail rumors, vows to continue fight against illegal mining

Mr Ernest Owusu Ntim, the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Atiwa East, has dismissed rumors that he has been jailed, describing them as “false and malicious propaganda” aimed at derailing his efforts to combat illegal mining in the district.

A statement signed by Mr Ntim and issued to the Ghana News Agency on Tuesday emphasized that he remained committed to enforcing the law and fighting against environmental degradation, despite facing stiff opposition and false allegations.

“As a DCE, my quest to salvage activities of illegal mining and its repelling effect on the environment has met stiffer opposition and been characterized by the spreading of falsehoods to demean my persona,” it said.

“This mediocre propaganda will not stop me from enforcing the law,” it added.

The statement therefore appealed to the citizens of Atiwa East to remain calm and disregard any alleged false reports, assuring them that the DCE was working tirelessly to address the issue of illegal mining.

It also announced plans for a comprehensive media engagement soon to address concerns.

The DCE’s statement comes after he was fined GH¢12,000 by the Koforidua High Court for an alleged contempt in a galamsey-related case.

“I have appealed the verdict, maintaining my innocence and vowing to fight on,” it said.
