Condom shortage hits Kwahu Obomeng as health officials intensify STI prevention campaign

A shortage of condoms has been recorded at Kwahu Obomeng during this year’s Kwahu Easter festivities, as health officials intensify efforts to prevent the spread of HIV/AIDS among revellers.

With thousands of visitors thronging Kwahu for the annual celebrations, demand for condoms has surged, resulting in temporary shortages in parts of Obomeng.

Medical officers have, however, stepped up public health education, urging individuals to prioritise safe practices. They are encouraging revellers to carry condoms and personal first aid kits stocked with essential items, including condoms—especially for those who may feel shy or uncomfortable purchasing them publicly.

“We are advising everyone to protect themselves. If you cannot buy condoms openly, you can keep them in your first aid kits. The goal is to reduce the risk of HIV and other sexually transmitted infections,” a health official stated.

Health teams stationed across the town are also distributing free condoms and offering voluntary HIV/AIDS screening services as part of measures to promote safe celebrations.

Officials are therefore appealing to the public to act responsibly and take advantage of the free services to safeguard their health during the festivities.
