Ghana Armed Force dismisses reports of mass HIV-positive applicants in recruitment process

The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has dismissed as false a media publication claiming that 60 per cent of applicants who underwent military medical screening tested positive for HIV.

A press release issued by the Department of Public Relations, GAF and signed by Naval Captain Veronica Adzo Arhin, the Acting Director, on Monday, said the publication was false, hence should be disregarded.

It said the medical screening process for applicants was still ongoing and that no official results had been declared at the time of the publication of the alleged report.

“The Ghana Armed Forces wishes to state categorically that the publication is fake news and should be ignored by all,” the release said.

The GAF noted that efforts were underway to trace the originators of the “mischievous story” circulating in sections of the media.

The GAF also cautioned media practitioners, particularly content creators, bloggers and vloggers, to exercise professionalism by crosschecking their facts before publishing stories.

It reaffirmed its commitment to transparency and due process in the recruitment and medical screening procedures.

GAF appealed to the public to rely on official communication channels for accurate information.
