Mason, 50, killed; body parts missing

A gruesome suspected ritual murder has shattered the calm of Domeabra Old Town in the Ga South Municipality, leaving residents terrified and calling for urgent government intervention.

The victim, identified only by his local nickname ‘Taller,’ a 50-year-old mason, was found dead in a horrific state, his body brutally mutilated with certain organs and tissues removed.

The chilling incident occurred inside an uncompleted building where ‘Taller’ lived. He was reportedly ambushed and killed by an unknown assailant or assailants who carefully harvested parts of his body.

Local authorities and investigators have classified the case as a suspected ritual killing, citing the nature of the injuries. Police data indicates that such crimes remain a serious concern in the region.

Assemblyman for the Domeabra Electoral Area, Joseph Akrashie, who has been working closely with the police, described the discovery in an interview with Adom News correspondent Kofi Adjei.

“Taller is well-known in the area, and we are shocked about what has happened to him,” Akrashie said, expressing the community’s disbelief.

He went on to share disturbing details of the police’s preliminary findings. “Investigations by the police indicate that the suspects cut the deceased’s left heel and thigh and removed all the veins in that part,” he revealed.

The precision of the mutilation suggested a deliberate extraction of tissue, pointing to possible ritual motives. The removed parts are believed to have been intended for use in ‘juju’ or spiritual practices often associated with the quest for wealth or power.

The Ghana Police Service Homicide Unit has since taken over the investigation. The body has been deposited at the Police Hospital Mortuary in Accra for autopsy to determine the exact cause of death and gather forensic evidence on the weapon used.

However, no arrests have been made yet, heightening tension and fear among residents.

Assemblyman Akrashie confirmed that the perpetrators remain at large, a situation that has left the community deeply anxious.

Some residents, gripped by fear, have appealed to the government and the Inspector General of Police to beef up security in the area to prevent further attacks.

“We don’t know who the next victim will be,” one resident said.
