Motoka No.2 D/A Basic school struggles with inadequate infrastructure

Students of Motoka No.2 D/A Basic School in the Krachi Nchumuru District of the Oti Region are facing severe challenges in accessing quality education due to inadequate infrastructure.

The school lacks proper classrooms and furniture, compelling pupils to hold lessons outdoors under trees and sit on stones. This situation disrupts academic activities, with classes often ending abruptly during bad weather.

Mr Solomon Wajon, Chairman of the Parents and Teachers Association (PTA), expressed concern over the condition, noting that community members have resorted to constructing makeshift structures after repeated appeals to the District Assembly and the Member of Parliament yielded no results.

He added that the absence of learning materials and logistics further affects attendance and the overall quality of education in the community.

The plight of Motoka No.2 D/A Basic School reflects a broader national challenge, as over one million basic school pupils in Ghana lack proper furniture, while many schools operate under trees, sheds, or in dilapidated structures.
