Physically challenged agro-processor donates bags of corn grits to Sunyani Central Prisons

Mr Kofi Vinyo, a physically challenged agro-processor has donated 30 bags of corn grits to inmates at the Sunyani Central Prisons.

Describing prisons as a ‘great house’ he said anybody could end up in prison, adding that “It’s not anybody who is in prison is a criminal’ and called for support towards improving the appalling conditions of the nation’s prisons.

Mr Vinyo, also the Chief Executive Officer of the Kwatire-based Kofi Vinyo Company Limited (KVCL), a tiger nut processing company made the call in an interview the Ghana News Agency (GNA) on the side-lines of a short presentation ceremony held at the company’s plant site at Kwatire in the Sunyani West Municipality.

He said the prison service required support towards the successful reintegration of convicts in society after they had served their sentences, and called on other companies, corporate and religious bodies to come to the aid of the central prison.

Superintendent Dennis Peasah, the Bono Regional Public Relations Officer of the Ghana Prisons Service, thanked the donor for the gesture, and appealed for more of such support for the upkeep of the 687 inmates.

He indicated that the food items would greatly improve nutritional meals of the inmates and improve their health condition.

Chief Superintendent Diana Kwarteng, in-charge of the female prisons said the facility had nine inmates and appealed for similar support for their upkeep too.
