Police launch manhunt after Immigration officer killed, another injured in Tempane

The Upper East Regional Police Command has launched a manhunt for unidentified gunmen who attacked two Immigration Officers at Nagani Tempane on Sunday night, November 2, 2025. 

One officer was killed while the other is currently receiving medical attention after sustaining critical injuries. 

The officers were reportedly returning to base after a routine foot patrol around 2200 hours when they were ambushed by the assailants, who opened fire on them and fled the scene with two AK-47 rifles belonging to the officers. 

In a statement signed by Chief Inspector Abdul-Rahman Sumaila, Public Relations Officer of the Upper East Regional Police Command, both officers sustained gunshot wounds and were rushed to the Upper East Regional Hospital in Bolgatanga for treatment. 

“Unfortunately, one of them was pronounced dead on arrival, while the other remains under medical care”, it said. 

The statement said the Inspector-General of Police had dispatched a team of investigators and intelligence officers to Tempane to assist with the investigation. 

The statement assured the public that a thorough investigation was underway to apprehend the perpetrators and bring them to justice. 

The statement also appealed to residents in the area to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies by providing any relevant information that could aid the investigation.
