Two robbers shot dead after attack on MoMo vendor at Tema Community 5

Two suspected armed robbers have been shot dead following a robbery incident targeting a mobile money (MoMo) vendor at Tema Community 5.

According to a statement signed by Dede Dzakpasu, Head of Public Affairs for the Tema Region, the incident occurred on Monday, April 13, 2026, at about 8:30 a.m. when the suspects attacked a MoMo operator at Aba Fosuah Plaza.

Preliminary investigations indicate that one of the suspects, who was riding as a pillion passenger on a motorbike, approached the vendor under the pretext of making a cash-out transaction. While the victim attempted to process the request, the suspect pulled a pistol and demanded her bag containing cash.

Police say the victim resisted, leading to a struggle involving both suspects. During the confrontation, the pillion rider shot the victim in the leg before the attackers fled the scene with the cash on a motorbike.

A police patrol team from the Tema Regional Operations Unit, which had been deployed nearby for security duties, responded swiftly after receiving a distress call and pursued the suspects.

During the chase, the suspects reportedly opened fire on the police near a junction close to Smart Hotel. Officers returned fire, and both suspects sustained gunshot wounds and fell off their motorbike.

They were transported to the Police Hospital but were pronounced dead on arrival. Their bodies have since been deposited at the mortuary for identification and autopsy.

A search conducted on the suspects led to the retrieval of a 9mm pistol loaded with ammunition, three mobile phones, assorted SIM cards, a talisman, a motorbike key and cash amounting to GH¢11,390. Police also recovered a Ghana Card belonging to the victim.
