Two arrested with 209 slabs of suspected weed, attempt GHC100,000 bribe offer
The Police in Agona Swedru has arrested two young men for transporting some dry substances suspected to be narcotics.
The Police impounded a total of 209 compressed slabs of dry leaves from 28-year-old Godfred Acquah and 34-year-old Awudu Usman who attempted to offer a GHC100,000 bribe.
According to a statement from the Central Regional Police Command, the Agona Swedru police intercepted a taxi cab with registration number GR 2932-26 during an operation around Agona Asafo and Agona Kwesitsukwaa road.
When they conducted a search on the car driven by Acquah, they found 154 compressed slabs of dried leaves believed to be narcotics concealed in four nylon sacks.
The Police proceeded to conduct a further search at the residence of Usman at Asisim in Agona Swedru and found an additional 55 slabs which Usman said belonged to him.
In an attempt to escape from the claws of the law, the duo allegedly offered GHC100,000 as a bribe to the Police but they vehemently rejected it.
The suspects are in the custody of the police and would be prosecuted in the coming days, the police stated.
