Beneficiaries laud Sompa Health Clinic, pray for sustainability
Beneficiaries of the fourth edition of the Sompa Health Clinic, an annual health screening outreach organised by the Sunyani-based Sompa FM have expressed their appreciation to the organisers for giving them the opportunity to know their various health conditions annually.
The FM station instituted the clinic since its establishment in 2022, and with other partners including the 21st Clinic, Heaven’s laboratory services and the A&A medical center providing free health screening
for residents in the Sunyani Municipality and beyond.
Other partners include the Owusu Memorial Hospital, Gengimed Dental Clinic, Bosomtwi urology hospital and the St Ignatius Eye Center.
Speaking in an interview with the media on the sidelines of the free health screening outreach held at the Sunyani Coronation Park over the weekend, the beneficiaries said they were hopeful that the FM station
would sustain the exercise.
They said the free health screening had enabled them to know their health status on yearly basis, which had accordingly improved on their health condition.
Mrs Martha Mensah, a beneficiary, said she was highly excited for participating in the screening exercise and thanked the station and its partners for the opportunity.
Another participant, Mrs Martha Mensah said: “before then I didn’t know I have high sugar levels though I normally experience some abnormalities in my body system”, saying with the screening exercise,
she could now manage the condition well.
Okyeame Kwaku Okyere, a participant and a resident at Yamfo, a mining community in the Tano North Municipality of the Ahafo Region urged the FM station to endeavour to sustain the health screening exercise to enable poor and vulnerable people to know their health conditions.
He said it was not that many of them were unwilling to go for periodic medical checkups, however, it was difficult for some of them to do so because they could not afford it.
Mr Mohammed Mahamud, another beneficiary and a resident of Abesim, near Sunyani lauded the health screening exercise and commended the FM station and its partners, and prayed that the organisers would
consider and organise the event at the community levels too.
Mr Yaw Aboagye Boadi, the General Manager of Sompa FM told the media that the Station appreciated the partners for their support, saying they required more partners.
He said the FM Station had prioritized health and sports in the execution of its corporate social responsibility in giving back to society, saying with more support and partnerships many people could
benefit from the annual health screening exercise.
More than 500 people, mostly women and the aged benefited from the health screening exercise to know their various health conditions.
They were screened for Ear, Nose, Throat, Eye and dental conditions, physiotherapy and gynecology services, body mass index, sugar and blood levels, diabetes and hypertension.
Some of the beneficiaries who had serious health implications were referred to seek further medical attention and others were also provided with some medications.
