Two suspected armed robbers lynched after killing 19-year-old Okada rider at Awutu Mampong

A 19-year-old commercial motorbike rider, Kofi Mensah, has been shot and killed, allegedly by armed robbers at Awutu Mampong in the Awutu Senya West District of the Central Region.

The two suspects were later apprehended and reportedly lynched by angry residents and fellow Okada riders.

Kofi Mensah, who had recently completed Senior High School, was working as an Okada rider to save for further education.

According to sources, the suspects hired him for a trip from Awutu Mampong to Agona Mankrong. About five minutes into the journey, one of the men asked Kofi to stop, claiming he needed to urinate.

When he complied, the suspects demanded the keys to his motorbike, threatening to kill him if he refused. Despite Kofi offering his mobile phone and the day’s earnings, explaining that the motorbike was part of a “work and pay” arrangement, the assailants allegedly shot him.

Assemblyman for the Agona Asafo Electoral Area, Ishmael Odoom, told Adom News that after shooting Kofi, the men broke his neck, tied his hands with a rope, and fled with the motorbike.

A passing Okada rider soon discovered Kofi’s body by the roadside and alerted colleagues. A search party quickly apprehended the two suspects at Agona Osedu.

According to Assemblyman Odoom, news of the murder sparked outrage among residents and Okada riders, who attacked and reportedly killed the suspects on the spot.

The bodies of Kofi Mensah and the two suspects have been conveyed to the Agona Swedru Police Hospital morgue as investigations continue.

Assemblyman Odoom has urged Okada riders to exercise caution to prevent similar incidents in the future.
