A deadly head-on collision on the Anyinam–Enyiresi stretch of the Accra–Kumasi Highway last Thursday claimed two lives and left 13 others injured.

The crash occurred when the driver of a Toyota Hiace (AS-4191-25), travelling from Nkawkaw towards Accra, reportedly attempted a wrongful overtaking, lost control, and veered into the lane of an oncoming Honda Pilot (AS-8086-14).

Eyewitnesses said the violent impact left both vehicles in the middle of the road, with several occupants trapped.

The driver of the Honda Pilot and a female passenger were critically injured and had to be extricated. They were transported to the Enyiresi Government Hospital but were pronounced dead on arrival.

Thirteen other victims 12 males and one female — were rushed to the same facility before rescue officials reached the scene.

Response

The District Fire Officer, LFM Samuel Awuku, said the Anyinam Fire Station received the emergency call at 09:21 hours and arrived at 09:36 hours with a six-member rescue team.

The crew conducted the extrication of the trapped victims, secured the accident scene, and cleared the debris to restore the free flow of traffic.

He said that by the time they arrived, some good Samaritans had already transported the injured to the hospital, and their focus had to shift to clearing the road to restore the steadily building traffic flow.
