Police arrest five persons for alleged kidnapping and demanding GH¢400,000 ransom

The Nsawam District Police Command has arrested five persons for allegedly kidnapping two men.

The suspects are Suleman Salifu, 24, Godfred Owusu, 26, Antwi Bismark, 27, Anas Salis, 38, and Gyamfi Isaac, 33.

They were arrested with assistance from the Suhum police.

A police brief said the suspects demanded a ransom of GH¢400,000 from the families of the victims, Seidu Sambiane, 28, and Ibrahim Alhassan, 42, who have since been rescued.

The brief stated that on January 10, 2026, at about 1520 hours, the Nsawam District Police Command received information that two men travelling from Accra to Anyinam had been kidnapped and taken to an unknown location.

It said the kidnappers asked the victims’ families to deposit GH¢5,000 as part of the ransom.

Acting on intelligence, the suspects were lured to a joint near the Suhum roundabout where they were arrested.

A search conducted in their unregistered Acura 4×4 vehicle revealed an unspecified amount of forged currency notes in GH¢100 and GH¢200 denominations, specimen paper cut into currency sizes, cash of GH¢4,600, a foreign pistol, a sharp cutlass, talismans, amulets and five mobile phones.

The suspects are currently in custody assisting with investigations.
