Ghana Photojournalists Network to host photo walk May 23

The Ghana Photojournalists Network (GPNet) will hold a Photo Walk on Saturday, May 23, 2026, to promote visual storytelling, professional collaboration and the role of photojournalism in Ghana’s democratic discourse.

The event will bring together photojournalists, multimedia journalists, photography students and visual content creators from across the Greater Accra Region to document urban life, culture and social dynamics.

A release copied to the Ghana News Agency said participants will gather at Independence Square before moving through key landmarks in the Central Business District, including Makola Market and James Town Beach.

The walk will end at Lavinda Hill with a mini-talk by selected renowned photojournalists and a networking session, during which selected images will be reviewed and discussed.

Organisers said the goal was to foster peer learning, strengthen ethical standards, and build public appreciation for the work of visual journalists.

GPNet, an umbrella body of photojournalists and visual storytellers working with credible media houses across Ghana, was established to address professional isolation and resource gaps facing visual journalists.

Since its inception, the network has promoted ethical and safe practices in photojournalism, facilitated training workshops and mentorship for young photographers, and advocated for the rights and welfare of photojournalists in the line of duty.

GPNet members regularly contribute to local and international news outlets, covering politics, health, conflict, culture and human-interest stories that shape public understanding of Ghana and the sub-region.

“In an era where misinformation spreads rapidly, credible visual storytelling remains a cornerstone of accountability and public awareness. The Photo Walk is both a celebration of that role and a reminder of the challenges photojournalists face, including access, safety, and fair compensation.

It’s about reclaiming public space for honest visual narratives, building solidarity among practitioners, and showing the public the value of investing in quality photojournalism. The network invites media houses, civil society organisations, and photography enthusiasts to join the walk and engage with participants,” Mr David Andoh, GPNet President, stated.
